Hello everyone,
next JC on tuesday 18 2pm. Xander will talk about the GREA model and discuss https://arxiv.org/abs/2106.16012, https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.13083 and https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.08537

A GREAT model comparison against the cosmological constant<https://arxiv.org/abs/2111.13083>
Recently, a covariant formulation of non-equilibrium phenomena in the context of General Relativity was proposed in order to explain from first principles the observed accelerated expansion of the Universe, without the need for a cosmological constant, leading to the GREA theory. Here, we confront the GREA theory against the latest cosmological data, including type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations, the cosmic microwave background (CMB) radiation, Hubble rate data from the cosmic chronometers and the recent $H_0$ measurements. We perform Markov Chain Monte Carlo analyses and a Bayesian model comparison, by estimating the evidence via thermodynamic integration, and find that when all the aforementioned data are included, but no prior on $H_0$, the difference in the log-evidence is $\\sim -9$ in favor of GREA, thus resulting in overwhelming support for the latter over the cosmological constant and cold dark matter model ($Λ$CDM). When we also include priors on $H_0$, either from Cepheids or the Tip o

The effect of GREA on the gravitational collapse of neutron stars<https://arxiv.org/abs/2302.08537>
General Relativistic Entropic Acceleration (GREA) gives a general framework in which to study multiple out-of-equilibrium phenomena in the context of general relativity, like the late accelerated expansion of the universe or the formation of galaxies and the large scale structure of the universe. Here we analyze the conditions for collapse of a star of degenerate neutrons in the presence of entropy production due to the gravitational collapse itself. We find that the final mass and radius of the neutron star differs from that obtained with the adiabatic Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation by a factor of order 15\\%. We also find that the minimum mass of a neutron star is $\\sim 1.1\\,M_\\odot$ and the maximum mass around $2.4\\,M_\\odot$. We discuss the possible implications for the search and interpretation of binary coalescing systems like neutron stars and neutron star-black holes detectable via their multimessenger (gravitational and electromagnetic wave) emission upon merging.

Hello everyone,

Hope to see you there,

Hello everyone,
second try for the JC on VIA sources this tuesday 04/04 at 2pm.
The first message was: I (AGAIN!) will talk about https://arxiv.org/pdf/2206.01120.pdf which claims to rule out VIA sources for EWBG and puts now usual EWBG scenario at odds with EDM measurements. Maybe we can try a discussion on alternatives to usual EWBG mechanism.
Best,
Miguel
Dear All,
here a list of confirmed visitors/speakers that will visit our group in the coming period.
Oriol Pujolas (from IFAE). He will come one-day, giving a talk, on the 27 of April. Unfortunately he can be present only on that day for family reasons. He works on DW and many aspects of GW related to our interests, so I encourage you to be present on that day.
Diego Redigolo (Firenze University). He will visit jointly VUB and ULB from 22 to 26 May. Diego is a long-term collaborator of mine about pheno aspects of SUSY. He is working now on cosmological perturbations, and he will give a talk on such topic on Thursday or Friday of that week.
Yann Gouttenoire (Tel Aviv University). He will visit us from 26 to 30 June. He is an expert on phase transitions and cosmic strings. He will present us his work on Monday or Tuesday of that week (still to be defined).
Best,
Alberto

Dear all,
We will have our next JC tomorrow at 12:30 in 2NO.708 as usual.
Ioanna kindly volunteered to talk about
Ruling Out Primordial Black Hole Formation From Single-Field Inflation
based on arXiv:2211.03395. But she will also try to reference papers such as 2301.00599, 2303.01727 and 2303.12025, which claim the opposite.
See you there!
Best,
Marco

Hello everyone,
Next JC on monday 27, 2pm. We start our series on baryogenesis with Alberto that will talk about a very recent paper:
https://arxiv.org/abs/hep-ph/9810261 on baryogenesis from cosmic string and discuss possible ways to extend it to domain walls.
My JC on VIA sources for electroweak baryogenesis is postponed, likely to monday 3/04.
Hope to see you there,
Best,
Miguel
